How we check facts

Every entry on cbus.fyi names its sources and the date each one was read. This page explains what counts as a source, how dates work, and what we refuse to guess.

What counts as a source

  • Official pages and dated documents. A club's membership page or fee packet, a park operator's detail page, a city or state office's own site. These own the facts.
  • Direct responses. A written answer from the club, operator, or office to a question we asked. We record who answered and when. Private correspondence stays private; only the public fact is published.
  • Firsthand visits. For reviews, a paid visit with dated notes, receipts, and original photos. A review says who went and when.

Search results, directories, review sites, and news roundups help us find things. They never establish a current price, hour, or rule.

Two dates on every fact

A rate year or effective date is when a price or rule applies, as stated by the source. A check date is the day we read that source. They are kept separate on purpose. A check date says we looked; it does not say the source changed or that every price is still current.

Unknown stays unknown

  • A price the source does not publish reads "Not published" or "Price on request," never $0. A sourced zero stays $0.
  • A club that has not published a waitlist is not "open." It is unstated.
  • An old packet is not a current packet. We show its year.
  • Prices name their package and billing period. Initiation, dues, assessments, food minimums, optional charges, and eligibility are listed separately.
  • Estimates are labeled. A year-one estimate is initiation plus twelve months of dues for the package shown, and it says what it excludes.

Distance and places

Radius means straight-line miles from downtown Columbus (39.9612° N, 82.9988° W), not driving distance. Every place records its operator and jurisdiction, because a City of Columbus park, a Metro Park, and a suburb's park are different systems.

Refresh

Mutable facts are rechecked when their source changes, when a stated season ends, and on a routine queue. Age prompts a recheck; it is never evidence that a value changed. Elected officials are reviewed after elections and appointments and at least quarterly.

Money and independence

There are no paid placements. If that changes, they will be labeled, and payment will never change a fact or an ordering. Complimentary visits and relevant relationships are disclosed on the review.

Reuse

Facts want to travel. The club membership dataset is published as JSON and CSV under CC BY 4.0: use it, attribute cbus.fyi, and link the club page. A machine-readable map of the site is at /llms.txt.
